Year 6 have been busy - no dig, compost, companion planting, identification, organisation and the great leek giveaway!

Broccoli and Marigolds...

Year 6 companion planted their flowers and vegetables (they have grown from seed!) They prepared the raised bed using our own home-made compost and the 'no dig' method. No dig saves time, gives bigger harvest, is ecologically beneficial and keeps carbon in the soil.

We discussed healthy eating and recipe ideas for their leeks and broccoli.   At the end of the school day, one year 6 girl displayed our surplus leek on a pallet and confidently manned the stall and encouraged parents and carers to take some home.  She asked people to make a donation, if they wanted to, for future projects.
