Garden & Grow Club: Preparing for Winter and Looking Ahead to Spring

Our Garden & Grow Club has been busy over the past few weeks preparing our outdoor areas for the colder months ahead. The children have been working hard, learning all about how gardens change with the seasons and how we can care for nature throughout the year.

A huge thank you goes to all the parents and carers who kindly donated unwanted cardboard. We’re putting it to excellent use as a natural weed suppressant in our wildlife area. By laying it down on the ground, we help to stop weeds from growing while enriching the soil beneath, and this simple, eco-friendly technique has worked brilliantly over the past year. We’re now adding another layer to keep our wildlife area healthy and ready for spring.

The children have also been busy planting wild garlic bulbs, which we hope will flourish and help our wildlife area continue to grow and thrive. With a little patience and care, we’re looking forward to seeing this space burst back into life next spring, providing food and shelter for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

Our Garden & Grow Club is all about giving children hands-on experiences with nature, from planting and caring for plants to learning about ecosystems and sustainability. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they help to create a green, welcoming space for both people and wildlife.

We’re excited to see how our wildlife area develops over the coming months and can’t wait to watch it bloom again next year! 🌼🐝
