End of Summer harvest

The first Garden & Grow club session after the summer holidays, the children spent an hour harvesting all the fruits and vegetables that had been growing over the summer.

Last week was the first Garden & Grow Club session after the summer holidays, and what a joyful return it was! The children spent the hour exploring our school garden, harvesting all the fruits and vegetables that had been quietly growing and ripening over the summer months. From juicy tomatoes and crisp cucumbers to leafy greens and vibrant beans, there was an impressive variety of produce ready to be gathered. The children worked together to carefully pick, collect, and sort the harvest, filling baskets with the results of their hard work and care earlier in the year. We also spent some time weeding and pulling out plants that had finished producing.

Once everything was gathered, the children carried their harvest into the school hall. There, they created a beautiful display of fresh fruits and vegetables, a colourful reminder of the patience, effort, and teamwork that had gone into nurturing our garden. This display was then shared the next day during collective worship, giving everyone the chance to pause and reflect on the importance of harvest time. It was a special moment to celebrate not only the abundance of food we had grown but also the value of gratitude for the earth, for the seasons, and for the wonderful things we can achieve when we work together.

The Garden & Grow Club have shown us how rewarding it is to care for nature and how important it is to appreciate the fruits (and vegetables!) of our labour. A brilliant start to the new term, we can’t wait to see what the next season brings!
