Willow Class Year 1 and 2

Welcome to Willow Class (Y1 and 2) where we like to be creative, learn lots of new exciting things and have fun together! We have 25 children in our class.

TEACHERS: In Willow Class, Mrs Sarah Smith and Mrs Sally Clark are our teachers. Mrs Frost and Mrs Maloney support us in our learning too.

ENQUIRY: Our whole school enquiry question for the Autumn Term 2026 is ‘When can we learn from people of the past?' Within Team Woodland we will be asking, 'What can we learn from the Great Fire of London and Gunpowder Plot?'

READING: Please hear your child read regularly, 3–4 times a week if possible. Children are rewarded with house points for recorded reads. When you hear your child read, please write the date, the book title and a short comment in their Monkey Book, or let your child write a comment of their own if they can. Please bring your Monkey Book to school every day. We will change books in class if needed on Mondays and Thursdays.

SPELLINGS: Each week we’ll share the phonic sounds and words we are working on at school via the Monkey book. We’re not going to do formal written spelling tests this year. We are going to practise sounds and words through reading and written sentence activities together in our phonics and English lessons. Please do share and talk about the words at home and look out for them in your child's reading books.

HOMEWORK: Enquiry homework tasks that link to our learning in school will be given out once every term. We will also recommend games and activities linked to key subjects to do online.

WATER: Please bring a named plastic drinking bottle every day.

SNACK: You can bring in healthy snacks like fruit for playtime if you’d like to. School fruit is also available each day.

P.E.: Our P.E. days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please come to school in your P.E. kit on these days. Bring a light anorak if it looks showery!

Please make sure ALL items of uniform and your P.E. kit has your name on the label. Permanent marker is fine to use.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING TOYS OR PENCIL CASES FROM HOME, our classroom has everything your child will need.

Thank you,

Mrs. Smith and Mrs Clark
